Dr. John Sarkar is a Kolkata-based eye surgeon. A highly skilled ophthalmologist, he deals with cornea and refractive surgeries. Education & Training
Dr. Sarkar completed MBBS from the prestigious RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. Then he went on to finish DO from the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, and MS from Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh. As part of his further studies, he pursued the Cornea and Refractive Fellowship from Sankara Netralaya, Chennai (2013-2015). After that, he practised as an Associate Consultant in Refractive, Cataract, and Cornea services in Sankara Netralaya in Chennai, and later at Kolkata (2015-2018). During his Fellowship, he received the Runner- Up Award for the Best Presentation from the Cornea Society of India for his research work “MOOKP- An Over A Decade Experience” in 2014.
Professional Journey
After serving at Sankara Netralaya, Dr. Sarkar went on to become a Senior Consultant at Susrut Eye Foundation and Research Centre in Kolkata, where he served until March 2025. While serving there, he performed:
- More than 2,000 phacoemulsification surgeries that required premium IOLS
- More than 1,000 corneal transplants ((PK, DSEK , DMEK , ULTRA-THIN DSEK ,DALK)
- Numerous LASIK and Phakic IOL surgeries.
His patient-centric approach, incomparable surgical skills, and compassionate approach have made him a reputed name in the field of eye care in Kolkata.
